Virtual Makeover: Galaga Arcade Game is Remastered

by Eran Abramson on July 24, 2008 in Fun StuffAdd a Comment

galaga_virtual_makeover

Do you remember the classic arcade game Galaga? It is an amazingly fun game that is extremely addictive. Although I was never too good at it or broke any records, I just couldn’t stop playing. The Galaga arcade game is still extremely popular today and is getting a virtual makeover with a new version called Galaga Legions.

Galaga Legions has the same fun atmosphere that we are all aware of in the classic arcade, but this one seems to have increased its intensity a few notches. Just watch the video and tell me it doesn’t seem a little crazy, packed, fast, and bright. It looks like someone got really pissed off and decided to take it out on massive amounts of spaceships and Galaga battles.

How To Find the Owner of an Email Address

by Tal Siach on July 24, 2008 in How to and HacksAdd a Comment

reverse_email_detective

Have you ever received an intriguing email that passed through the spam filter? Has an email from an unrecognized sender ever mentioned subjects or touched on important factors? Would you ever like to find out who the sender is, and if a specific email does ring true? It would be nice to check back on the massive amount of emails we receive daily. Who is this person, where is it sent from, and do a reverse email address inquiry.

I have a few different email addresses through various services, which are used to filter out different inquiries. One service is for daily use for business colleagues or friends, another is for subscriptions to RSS, different communities, or some occasional accounts (i.e poker or travel accommodations) and another for plain spam. The thing is, sometimes spam still finds its way into the “non-spam” address, and at other times the “spam” inbox receives an email worth checking. So if something leaves us curious, we may want to check who the person that send us a specific email truly is. That is where Reverse Email Detective comes in.

This service provides some points and ideas how and where to check for the owner of a specific email address. They provide different email directories to search through for free, and also offer a further paid service for specific email traces. After I found this, I wondered about the many unknown emails I received in previous years; were any of them true? perhaps I could have actually known.

Save Gas with a DIY Gas Meter

by Eran Abramson on July 23, 2008 in DIY (Do It Yourself)Comments (1)

save_gas_diy_gas_guzzler_1

Would you like to save money on your Gas spending? With the gas prices rising and hurting many of us, there are a few solutions to save money on gas. A simple solution that you may not like too much is to just get rid of your car, the second is this do it yourself project of a gas guzzling meter. While the first solution doesn’t seem too practical or possible, it will also help the environment (less pollution, congestion, chemicals, etc.). The gas meter remedy is a “fun” way to keep tabs on your gas use while driving, thus helping you improve your gas consumption…hopefully reducing your use.

The gas meter diy solution is a way to present how your driving skills (or lack of) are eating up fuel and how much it is costing you. It may in fact help you realize what different driving conditions, reactions, and road mannerisms do to effect your living costs. For example, it will make you think twice before revving up your engine…because showing off will present how it is taking its toll on your wallet.

Project instructions and calculations for the meter are provided in the link below. This diy is categorized as a moderate project with approximate time of 8 hours and costing less than $60.

So which will be your choice? No vehicle or the Gas Meter?

Hallmark Cards: Animated and Dissected

by Eran Abramson on July 22, 2008 in Customer ExperienceAdd a Comment

hallmark_cards_animated_dissected_4.jpg

Some say that nothing compares to Hallmark greeting cards - could be due to their huge selection or perhaps the commercialized status. I myself do not remember the last time I actually stepped into a Hallmark store or purchased a Hallmark stamped card for a friend, relative or business associate, but I must admit that their hand cranked animated cards are pretty damn cool. And with every cool product comes the curiosity about the nuts and bolts that make it move and put a smile on the consumer’s face. The images below are some of the dissected parts of the Hallmark Animated Cards that help me appreciate the greeting cards a little more.

hallmark_cards_animated_dissected_6

Don’t get me wrong! I am not supporting or pressing you to go out and purchase these animated Hallmark cards. I am simply stating the cool factor behind these products and appreciating the mechanics which are making it work.

hallmark_cards_animated_dissected_8.jpg

Sometimes I wish I didn’t have two left hands and was able to build such things by myself. If you are a do it yourself kind of person that may go out and recreate these cards all by yourself, we would love to see the process and final product. Please send us any photos, videos, and/or details of how you were able to get it done. That would be an amazing thing to see.

Motorcycle Projector Brings the Drive In Theater to You

by Eran Abramson on July 21, 2008 in Customer ExperienceAdd a Comment

motorcycle_projector_drive_in_theater

Have you ever been to the drive-in theater? Did you enjoy the movie? While the drive-in theaters used to be extremely popular, that movie niche is disappearing; more and more drive-in cinemas are closing and dying off. For those sentimental drive-in fans, there is a different solution…it still involves a vehicle, but now the movie is attached to your own motorcycle. You can take your movies with you with the Motorcycle Projector, so the instead of driving to the theater, you bring the theater where you want to see the movie.

With this motorcycle projector, movie (and motorcycle) fans could literally have their movies with them on the go. If you are at a party and feel like watching the movie on a suburban garage door, just bring the bike up the driveway and start the film. If you would like to have an original romantic dinner and a movie? Take the date on a ride, have them pick the movie…and also the place they want to see it at.

This mobile motorcycle projector combination brings two great hobbies together in one great creation. The only downfall is that many would probably prefer making out in the backseat of a car rather than the seat of a motorcycle. But then again, everyone has their own needs.

Disappearing Car Door Leaves You Automatically Speechless

by Eran Abramson on July 21, 2008 in Tech Products NewsAdd a Comment

disappearing_car_door_jatech_2

Do you ever feel that your car door’s design may not be as efficient as it should be? Do you believe some ingenuity is missing but you cannot really think of a viable solution? The Disappearing Car Door by Jatech has redesigned the car door so it disappears once it’s opened. No, it doesn’t literally disappear or vanish, but opens up very efficiently, automatically hiding itself out of the way. Instead of being worried you are parked too close next to someone or that you may hit someone’s door when you open yours, this solution gets rid of that dilemma.

disappearing_car_door_jatech_1

The disappearing Car Door by Jatech may be an edited video or complete hoax, but wouldn’t it be possible to make anyways? It opens the door and folds it neatly towards the bottom of the car. This is extremely space efficient and leaves the inside of the car with the same room as before. In fact, the door is actually enlarged a bit, so those sitting in the rear would have easier access and exit.

You still don’t really understand the innovation of the disappearing car door? Simply watch the video. It goes on to explain and demonstrate this prototype invention with different vehicles as example.

When I first saw this disappearing car door, I immediately wondered of it was real. Either it was nicely edited or actually rings true…which do you think?

Kung Fu Fighting Robots: Build a Combat Robot

by Eran Abramson on July 20, 2008 in DIY (Do It Yourself)Add a Comment

kung_fu_fighting_robots_5

Remember the old Comedy Central shows of the fighting robots? I used to love those shows and watched almost every single one. The crazy combat between the various robots was extremely entertaining and sometimes also extremely ruthless. The different competing robots has some nasty battles involving saws, knives, hammers and so many different weapons attached in order to bring on the demise of fellow competing robots. Hey, there could be only one first place. Whether it is kung fu fighting robots, shredding robots, cockfighting robots, hammering robots or a different original idea you have, you have the ability to design your very own and build it by yourself.

kung_fu_fighting_robots_1

When taking on such a do it yourself project, you must first decide what size robot you would like to create because different sizes provide various abilities and also handicaps. Afterward, you must decide your budget for such a diy project, design it…and of course…build it. For steps, instructions, images and feedback, check the Instructables link below and come up with your own creative plan. Perhaps you would be able to create that one evil robot to take over the world, or just a scary looking but harmless toy. You are now in the driver seat…until the robot itself is up and fighting.

Promise Keepers: Stamp that Promise for your Records

by Tal Siach on July 19, 2008 in Customer ExperienceAdd a Comment

promise_keepers_credit_seal_stamp_1

Words are things, and so are promises. Has anyone ever backed out of a promise, or claimed they did not actually do so but just hoped they would be able to deliver? Just because a person may be busy, have a viable excuse, or a bad memory does not mean that their promise does not deserve to be fulfilled. This goes for parents, children, business partners, friends, and any other individual that promises anything to you. Why not keep a record of these words, so when delivery time arrives, the person would have to admit it was made and hopefully fulfill so. Here comes the era of the Promise Keepers.

promise_keepers_credit_seal_stamp_2

The Credit Seal concept by Arthur Xin aims to grow our nature to become wonderful promise keepers. When someone says something, we would now be able to hold them up to their word. This device records a statement promised and brings it back up at the appropriate time or when the promise date is coming close. In addition, a printed stamp may seal the deal and provide an actual record that is visually presented to the parties involved.

promise_keepers_credit_seal_stamp_3

This design may be great for the children in all of us, so we could keep our parents at bay regarding watching a school soccer match, a daughter’s recital, or even getting the keys to the car when fulfilling report card expectations. In addition, this probably should make it to most office desks as well. As mentioned, a hectic schedule and a busy day do not give anyone an excuse to back out of a promise.

Fancy Dog Collars: No Shock and No Bark

by Eran Abramson on July 18, 2008 in Tech Products NewsAdd a Comment

fancy_dog_collar_bark

I love my neighbors’ dogs but sometimes they get barking in unison which is just hell. Now they don’t bark during appropriate times but usually right as I try to fall asleep. When is that? usually right before the dogs begin barking. What I mean is that they do not have a barking schedule but a random thing that we do not notice until it bothers us. So in all actuality, they could be barking all day but we filter it out when we do not desire the silence. How do we get the silence when needed? I know there are shock collars that provide some electrical shock to dogs when they bark, but even I believe it is a bit cruel. Why not create some fancy dog collars that would grant these dogs some of their own medicine?

The Ultrasonic Bark Barking Collar aims to annoy the barking dog. This fancy dog collar will know when the dog barks and send out a high pitched frequency that annoys the dog itself. Hopefully the dog will begin to get a little frustrated, annoyed, realize the hell it has provided to so many other innocent bystanders and reduce its barking quota.

I have recently realized that this product has been either discontinued or has been sold out. If you are ecstatic about such a collar and find where it is available, please let us know so others would be able to get their hands on this miracle dog collar as well.

Dude, The Big Lebowski Complete Movie in One Single Image

by Eran Abramson on July 17, 2008 in Fun StuffAdd a Comment

dude_big_lebowski_image

Dude, I just love the movie The Big Lebowski! Actually, it is in my list of top movies of all time, along with the Godfather and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The Big Lebowski is such an entertaining flick, and the characters are simply remarkable; each is coming from his/her own world and contributes positively to the amazing and intelligent dialogue - “Shut the f*&k up Donny”. I have seen the movie many times, and it is still not enough. If you feel like getting a Big Lebowski fix without spending (not wasting) time actually watching it, then Dude your prayers have been answered with one single image of the entire movie.

Jason Cosper (must be a major Big Lebowski fan) has created one beautiful image that I would actually like to have on my wall. So grab a White Russian and watch the entire The Big Lebowski movie with one single poster.

Images above: Left image is entire film, right is a close up to show individual frames.
