FireFox3.1 Beta2 Welcome Screen

Firefox has just released Firefox 3.1 beta 2 and it’s available for download at the Firefox Mozilla Official SiteMozilla in 54 different languages. Due the significant success of private browsing, tab tearing and speedy TraceMonkey, Javascript engine is turned on by default.

Here are some of the unique functionalities Lifehacker mentioned of the new Firefox 3.1 beta version:

New support for web worker threads
Tab switching feature is now remove due to the feedback from users
Improved speculating parsing engine for faster content rendering and some improvements in Gecko engine.

Firefox 3.1 is stronger now in supporting newer web technologies like <video> , <audio> elements, W3C Geolocation API, SVG transforms and offline applications, CSS 2.1 and 3 properties, JavaScript query selectors.

When you look at the fresh page while you run your FF 3.1 beta you may wonder whether it is a welcome screen for Firefox or an Arcade Game! No confusion necessary, they have revamped the welcome screen too with a new robot.

One caution for intrepid testers is that some of your extensions will not work in this beta release; make sure to tweak the config file using the following steps.

Type about:config into Firefox’s address bar and click the “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button.

Right-click anywhere. Choose New>Boolean. Make the name of your new config value extensions.checkCompatibility and set it to false.

Make another new boolean pair called extensions.checkUpdateSecurity and set the value to false.

Restart Firefox.

Horray! Your Firefox 3.1 B2 is now extensions compatible. Enjoy your tweaking!
