Mortal Kombat + Stop Motion = Papercraft Fatalities

This stop-motion Mortal Kombat video is way cooler than any CGI effects used in the 1995 Movie.  I think we can all agree that the Mortal Kombat movie that came out a few years back wasn’t quite as cool as the video game, but this stop-motion vid picks up the slack.

The makers of the vid get super-geek points for using construction paper to create a video of Mortal Kombat favs Sub-Zero, Sonya, Raiden, Johnny Cage and the rest of the MK cast.  For those of you already in the know, there is, supposedly, a new MK movie in the works.  Mortal Kombat: Devastation is slated for release sometime around 2013, and a new video game, Mortal Kombat 9, is slated for release in 2011.   With no question that Mortal Kombat gamers and fans will continue to support whatever Sub-Zero or Sonya star in next, this little gem of 2D animation definitely warrants at least a half-dozen viewings.  Heck, the 2D animation here might even be better than the original graphics.

The video parodies the intro to the original video game, including character select.  If you ever wanted to see badass construction paper stop-motion of all the Mortal Kombat fatalities now is your chance.  Channel Awesome doesn’t spare the gorey details or sound effects – making this video almost cooler than the game itself.  Granted if they could re-release the game in stop-motion format I think they’d finally revitalize the MK cult.  I’m almost positive that this video is the fatality blow to any and all fan-vids out there.  In fact, I’d love to see a side-by-side smackdown between this vid and others out there – complete with “Finish HIM!” punctuation.

Never realized that you needed to see such a thing as stop-motion Mortal Kombat?  Well, no time like the present.  I’d highly recommend jumping over to the link to check it out.   It’s definitely cooler than the Super Mario Bros stop-motion that we reviewed a while back [] and on-par with the chalk board Street Fighter vid produced by two fellas with too much time on their hands.
