Touch-Light: The Senzo Nightlight Concept

Remember the last time you got up in the middle of the night for a glass of water and stumbled over in the dark? With the coming of the Senzo Nightlight, such incidents will be a thing of the past. We have all at some time got up and walked in the dark; whatever the purpose may be. And for some reason, we all make the same ‘mistake’ of not switching on the light. Or let’s just say that we are often unable to locate the switch in the dark. What do we do then? We use our sense of touch and stay closely to the wall as we try to find our way. In this entire route that we cover by feeling the wall, we may trip over something that was left lying on the floor and eventually hurt ourselves. The worst part is that we are still in the dark. Sounds quite pathetic but all of us have gone through such a situation.

This slice from a common man’s life has been well understood by designers Soledad Clavell and Marcos Madia. Together the designers have come up with a designer utility product named Senzo. What is Senzo? In the simplest of terms it is a nightlight. Delving a little deeper reveals that it is not just any nightlight. The designers have kept the ‘wall feeling’ habit of every individual in mind. This has led to the development of the touch sensitive light, named Senzo.

Placed at 80cms above the ground the Senzo is a long tube-like light system. At the touch of a finger it emits a stream of light across the wall making it easy for you to find your way in the dark.

Senzo has great utility and yet a very simple design. The power source is placed at one end of the tube. It houses the batteries and the electronic components. On one side of it is the power button. The tube extending from the power house of the nightlight contains two ribbon LEDs that light up in the dark. The pressure sensors are located exactly below the edges of the tube cover. This designer nightlight has great looks as well and to give it those good looks, the best of materials have been used. The section that houses the power source is made from a tough and durable plastic called ABS which comes after fiberglass in terms of protection. The LED ribbons are packed within a Corian cover, a brand well known for its toughness and versatility.

Senzo Nightlight can be operated in three modes and in each mode the color of the power button changes. When you turn on all its lights then the button is green-colored. In the standby mode the button is colored blue. All that you have to do is touch it to light it. And red is the color when it is switched on in ‘emergency’. An ‘emergency’ is when there is a power failure and the light switches on automatically – thanks to the batteries that the designers have very thoughtfully placed in it.

The Senzo Nightlight is yet to be launched in the market but once there it is sure to light up many dark rooms. Also check out LED Art Cube and Touch Your Light to know more about such extraordinary designs.
