A Replica Prop Forum user uses a 3D printer to create an amazing cosplay of Nintendo’s popular gaming heroine, Samus Aran.

Need some last minute Halloween costume inspiration? Perhaps you should take a look at what Replica Prop Forum’s member Talaaya has created in two years time using a friend’s 3D printer, a fabulous recreation of Samus Aran’s Varia Suit from Metroid Prime 3.

As many keen-eye Metroid fans might know, the Varia Suit has been the choice outfit worn by Nintendo’s famed space-bounty hunter through many of her adventures, and Talaaya has done an excellent job of making her own cosplay-version.

Talaaya modeled and printed her suit after a Garry’s Mod 3D file, which was created by a Facepunch member called medrop, and the materials used are fairly common to find; the suit’s rad paint job is actually car paint, to give it that lovely metal shine.

The Varia Suit’s assembly was still a tricky one overall, getting the individual model pieces to look right – particularly, the chest and shoulder pieces crafted from silicone – which took a little trail and error on Talaaya’s part, but in the end came together amazingly.

Here’s a snippet of video of Talaaya trying out her Varia Suit:

You can find more pictures of Talaaya’s Varia Suit cosplay, both of the finished product and its assembly, over on her WordPress blog. I would imagine if Talaaya ever showed up at any Halloween costume parties, she would have no trouble winning; I know she would have my vote!

While Cosplay has been going on for over 100 years, beginning probably in Japan, it took some time before it became the convention phenomenon it is today.

The book Cosplay World reviews the evolution of what some consider to be an art form, featuring stars of the craft such as Yaya HanCrystal Graziano, and Spiral Cats.

Pro Voltage Cosplay Shows Off Metal Gear REX Costume At Otakon http://walyou.com/metal-gear-rex-cosplay/ http://walyou.com/metal-gear-rex-cosplay/#comments Mon, 25 Aug 2014 13:00:03 +0000 http://walyou.com/?p=178844

This Metal Gear REX cosplay is more than just solid, it is absolutely awesome.

Cosplay and robots are typically two things a person is most likely to run into at an anime convention. But on a special occasion, oh say frequenting the second biggest anime convention in the United States, Otakon, it is possible to find both at the same time – case in point, this radical Metal Gear REX cosplay from Pro Voltage Cosplay.

The talented cosplay group from New York debuted their bite-sized version of the titular mech behind the Metal Gear Solid saga from Japanese game maker Konami at this year’s Otakon, and if I didn’t know any better, I’d swear Hal Emmerich – the anime-loving scientist and chief engineer behind the nuclear-armed bi-pedal tank – was amongst Pro Voltage’s ranks considering the fantastic quality of its build.

Mobility though, is where the Metal Gear REX costume, unfortunately, has problems. Ruby Taki, the person inside the hulking mech, only has a limited range of articulation.

Ruby can move REX’s head, arms, and legs all right, but when it comes to taking a casual stroll through the open spaces of the Baltimore Convention Center, not so much. The costume has its wearer on stilts, and combining that with the heavy weight of the mech itself, well, it doesn’t make for a good match as Ruby herself admits.

Thankfully, we’re not judging this Metal Gear REX cosplay in Olympic gymnastics. Looks are what matter here. And in that department Pro Voltage Cosplay has done a terrific job. Check out a video of the costume being assembled at this year’s Otakon, recorded by Mike Hecxz.

I fully recommend following Pro Voltage Cosplay on Facebook, where you can see more of their cosplaying efforts. If the name hasn’t tipped you off already, the group has an affinity for the Metal Gear Solid series and has splendid cosplay of characters within that universe.

12 Superheroes at Their Loneliest http://walyou.com/lonely-superheroes/ http://walyou.com/lonely-superheroes/#comments Fri, 15 Aug 2014 13:00:27 +0000 http://walyou.com/?p=178288

From the fortress of Solitude, to the Batcave or even Peter Parker’s slimy bachelor’s pad, Superheroes, be it in costume or their alter-ego, need their alone time to decompress. This fantastic series of photos shows them (or people dressed like them) at their loneliest moments out in the wild, away from the pressures of saving the world.

Spider-Man sitting on an empty road

The Batman of Notre Dame

Or just in some cave

Superman up North

Or “stranded” on a tiny island

The creator of this series is French artist Benoit Lapray. According to him, this might be Superheroes on a quest, but a quest to find themselves.

Or up on a Cliff

And getting away from there

Wolverine in the wild

Captain America up some hill

Flash-ing through the fields

Thor in the Woods

Woder Woman in some lake

Or some waterfall

Iron-Man is here too

And so is the Silver Surfer

Hulk loves being one with nature

Catwoman hiding somewhere

Guy Replicates Iron Man’s Armor In Cardboard Because Why Not http://walyou.com/guy-replicates-iron-mans-armor-in-cardboard-because-why-not/ http://walyou.com/guy-replicates-iron-mans-armor-in-cardboard-because-why-not/#comments Mon, 07 Apr 2014 14:00:04 +0000 http://walyou.com/?p=174777

Sadly, there’s no real life Tony Stark, and the military hasn’t come up with anything like Iron Man’s suit yet, but thanks to this artist, we’re making serious progress towards the dream of seeing the Golden Avenger in real life.

Kai-Xiang Xhong has a sharp mind and a couple of dexterous hands that were responsible for the creation of this cardboard set of wearable Iron Man armor. This armor doesn’t have any weapons, but we’re glad for that, because we’re people of peace. Still, it totally rocks the looks department. Gameboy Cosplay With Playable Games! http://walyou.com/gameboy-cosplay-with-playable-games/ http://walyou.com/gameboy-cosplay-with-playable-games/#comments Thu, 27 Feb 2014 13:00:07 +0000 http://walyou.com/?p=173893

We know for a fact that there’s cosplayers out there ready to portray your favorite characters of all time, but what if we told you they cosplay objects too? Such is the case of the Gameboy Cosplay.

If you think that calling this ´cosplay´ is a stretch, we’ll let you know that this is indeed a costume (created by redditor Dacaris), and has more play than any cosplay we’ve seen for these games are fully playable! That’s right, you can change the cartridge on the back of the suit, pop in your favorite classic and have at it. Pokemon red? Link’s Awakening? Tetris? Super Mario Land? Your call. See the video below to see the costume in action.

Jessica Nigri As The Perfect Link From Legend of Zelda http://walyou.com/jessica-nigri-link-zelda/ http://walyou.com/jessica-nigri-link-zelda/#comments Tue, 28 Jan 2014 12:00:09 +0000 http://walyou.com/?p=173200

If we can get over the fact that Link is actually both a lefty and a man, we’ll learn to appreciate this incredible cosplay by Jessica Nigri by what it truly is: a masterpiece!

If you have any interest at all in cosplay, you might be familiar with the name Jessica Nigri, for she’s probably the biggest name in the scene. Jessica is a cosplayer, model and over-all celebrity who now delights us with her very own vision of the Hero of Time, Link from The Legend of Zelda.

In these pictures we even get to see her with Lindsay Elyse as her very own personal Navi. We would have preferred a Midna, personally, but you can just not argue with a classic, and that’s just what these two ladies have created. Congrats to the both of them!

Badass Dick Grayson / Robin Cosplay By Eriol Kun http://walyou.com/robin-cosplay/ http://walyou.com/robin-cosplay/#comments Tue, 21 Jan 2014 13:00:15 +0000 http://walyou.com/?p=173068

Robin is slowly shaking off the “disciple of Batman” tag, and slowly becoming an interesting character on his own, and proof of that is the love he’s getting from fans. One of the most passionate we’ve seen, at that, is Eriol Kun who chose to depict him in one of his last photoshoots in his Young Justice version, which also happens to be our favorite.

It’s the first time we talk about Eriol Kun here, but his name should ring a bell with those who care about cosplay at all, for being one of the most meticulous and hard working guys in the scene, which if you compare with the crazy amount of ladies, it’s sort of an oddity.

This set in particular was done in collaboration with Sergio Aguirre AKA Instanto, who managed to get the cold of the streets of Gotham in this set, so our congratulations go to him, too.

The Cutest Vanellope Von Schwetz Ever: More Like Sugar Crush http://walyou.com/vanellope-von-schwetz-cosplay/ http://walyou.com/vanellope-von-schwetz-cosplay/#comments Mon, 06 Jan 2014 13:00:24 +0000 http://walyou.com/?p=172660

Not every great CGI movie from Disney comes from Pixar: there’s Wreck-it Ralph to prove our point, and fans that love it as much as we do, like the cosplayer Enji Night from Bulgaria.

As explained above, this lady over her goes by the name of Enji Night, and she’s one of our favorite cosplayers around. We spoke about her before when we came across her fantastic Super Maria Bros cosplay, but this time around, the piece is only marginally related to gaming, as she decided to take on the cute princess Vanellope Von Schwertz from the movie Wreck-it Ralph.

There’s just something about the cute way she portrays Sarah Silverman’s character that just works and makes it perfect, but we’d love to hear what our readers think about it. There’s an open comments section below, so go at it!

Crafting Masters Recreate Kratos’ Blades of Chaos http://walyou.com/kratos-blades-of-chaos/ http://walyou.com/kratos-blades-of-chaos/#comments Fri, 20 Dec 2013 14:00:43 +0000 http://walyou.com/?p=172198

Kratos might be the God of War, and none shall defy him, but most of his reputation comes from the skill which with he handles this iconic pair of blades. Enough of the angry shouting, bro!

The guys at Man at Arms, famous for recreating some of the geekiest weapons and armors in pop culture, are the team behind this recreation of the Blades of Chaos, as seen in God of War, the PS2 and PS3 video game franchise. You can learn more about the crafting process in the video below these lines.
