Hyper Realistic DIY Molten Lava

Lava is scary, but there’s something about it that makes it incredibly fascinating. So much, we wouldn’t mind having some at home to admire.

This is home-made lava, a project by the Syracuse University made entirely out of chunks of basaltic rock (the material that comprises most of the seafloor) melted and poured in the form of lava. In order for it to turn into magma, 2192 degrees Fahrenheit are required for several hours. Now, science is cool and interesting, but the best part is that they’ve even roasted marshmallows over the lava. See more about the project at Earth magazine.
