Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes First Gameplay Footage

Here it is, the world debut video of the next Metal Gear Solid game from Hideo Kojima shown at PAX 2012.

You demanded it and Hideo Kojima delivers. Only days removed from its unveiling at a Metal Gear 25th Anniversary shindig in Tokyo, the creator of the popular stealth-action series hopped on a jet to Seattle, took some Five Hour Energy, and presented the first gameplay footage of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.

And graciously for media types and all those who were unable to attend Penny Arcade Expo 2012, where Mr. Kojima-san hosted a PAX Panel also celebrating 25 years of Metal Gear, the “No recording-devices allowed” mandate was dropped for this occasion – meaning, yes – we all get to finally see what wowed our Japan-based amigos on Thursday.

Not just a skimpy 2 minute short, either. It’s 10 minutes of Ground Zeroes eye candy that will send you into a total sugar high, like an 8-year-old on Halloween night, and then leave you madly wanting more once the dizzying rush is over. Also there’s lots of rain in the video; I brought my umbrella and yellow rubber rain-boots just in case.

Great Zeus’s beard, the descriptions weren’t lying, this game is gorgeous!

Also… I was way off with my  “youthful Snake” analysis from a couple of days ago; that looks an awfully lot like Big Boss Snake. 1) The eye patch is a dead giveaway, and 2) the time-period must be where they haven’t invented Just For Men yet judging by the gray on Snake’s head and whiskers. I like it though, makes him look like The Most Interesting Man in the World!

Following this bread trail, its easy to presume that Ground Zeroes might take place after Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker… certainly the tropical-seeming local matches up between both games. But go figure, really, with little background known, I’m just throwing darts hoping to hit something in the dark at this point (don’t try that home kids; seriously, very dangerous.)

Although, the Ground Zero’s trailer did reveal one important thing: the platforms. The open-world stealth game (oh hey, remember that!) is slated for a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release (no release date), though playfully as always, Mr. Kojima-san hinted that this title would be “a beginning” rather than an end for the series.

Take that “mysterious, it probably could mean something, but probably not, although who knows” comment as you wish. Me? Well, I have profound love for all things Metal Gear, so I’ve already purchased my tickets aboard the Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes hype-train. What about you? Did the trailer above get you “excite,” as they say?

If not, then we’ve got tons of geeky awesome items on Walyou – a Power-Up Arcade Light Switch Plate or this life-sized Darth Vader cake (Luke, I am your father… and made of frosting) for example – to hopefully do the same. Enjoy!
