Skittles Sorter: Taste The Rainbow How You Want To

If you are  a fan of a certain color of Skittles, you know how annoying it can be to pick out the ones you want from the bag. A new Skittles sorting machine looks to take away those troubles!

Let’s face it, not everyone likes all the colors of the rainbow when it comes to a bag of Skittles. Personally, I am a fan of the orange ones the most and on the bottom of my list are the green ones. If anyone is like me, and I know there are many of you out there, you like to open the bag and separate the colors out. But it can be annoying! There are many times, upon opening the bag, the Skittles end up flying everywhere, including the floor. Unfortunately, Skittles will not ever concede to selling bags of just one color of Skittles. So aside from spending time yourself, separating the colors of Skittles, there is not much to be done…until now. What if I told you there is a machine that will sort out your Skittles, much in the same way those coin separating machines work? Would you be interested in one? I know I would!

Meet the Skittles Sorting Machine 2. Created by Brian Egenriether, this machine allows you to taste the rainbow on your own unique color wavelength. It uses an IR LED as well as phototransistor to figure out the color of the Skittles. Then, a BASIC Stamp 2 controls three different servo motors to move the turnstile and send the Skittle to its appropriate color bowl.

Take a look at how it works below:
