The New Star Trek Into Darkness Movie Poster

What do we know so far about the new Star Trek into Darkness film, the second in the series reboot by J.J. Abrams which began with the fantastic Star Trek in 2009? Not much, but at least we finally have a poster coming out.

Like most of Abrams’ projects, he’s keeping the cards close to his chest. Benedict Cumberbatch, the guy who plays Sherlock Holmes on the latest British adaptation of the detective story into a TV series, is the main villain. He’ll also be appearing in The Hobbit as Smaug the Dragon. Big year for him involving his penetration to the universes of geeks. We also know that his character will be engaged in some sort of a fight with Spock.

That’s pretty much it, although bits and pieces, and obviously wild (and some accurate) fan theories are being thrown around. The Star Fleet insignia in the poster might be a sign of things to come, but that might be just a cool visual piece. Cumberbatch’s character has been descirbed as a one man weapon of mass destruction, so there’s that.

The movie comes out May 17, 2013. Nine minutes of the film will play in front of IMAX 3D screenings of The Hobbit.
