Tense? Check Out This Robot.

You might be tense, but this thing is probably more wound up than you will ever be. (By the way, all of these puns are intended.)

I’m not really sure what it’s supposed to be, or what its general purpose is, but what it does is pretty strange. It generally looks like a face, and has parts that move and click as the coils get tightened up. The video below basically shows what it does, but the entire process seems pointless and merely for the sake of amusement, if people are ever that amused by something so odd.

Don’t get me wrong, it looks really cool. It’s designed with parts taken from a clock, a voltage meter, a cigar box, sewing machine parts, watches, candle holders, a chain and sprocket, and motors. The entire thing looks really strange, and again it doesn’t really make all that much sense, but I think that’s part of it.

As the robot starts to operate, the needle on the voltage meter begins to move, and the gears turn. The metal coils begin to rotate and this, in turn, causes some parts to create the clicking noise, which you hear in the video. The clicking noise goes hand in hand with the movement of what look like eyebrows on the front of the face. It’s really an interesting trinket that looks like a lot of fun to build.

What makes it cool is that it is something made by hand and that it is custom built and personal. It stands at 18” tall, 11” wide, and 7” deep, so it would fit perfectly on a nightstand or a display case without being too intrusive. Finally, while it may not have any practical function, it’s worth having just to say you have something like this.
