Parking in Motion (PIM) App for iOS Review

Parking in Motion is a new app for iPhone simplifies the tedious task of finding a spot by allowing you to to find, reserve and pay for parking across the US, Canada and Europe.

From its database of 16,000 locations (300+ US cities, 50+ canadian cities, and 200+ European cities), just name a city and the app instantly gathers ultra-useful parking information.

This free app’s specialty is its extensive knowledge of your city’s parking options. This includes parking facility types (Garage, Surface Lot, Valet), hours of operation, and comparisons of parking prices. You can reserve your spot before you arrive, such as airport parking locations, and instantly find parking near your destination.

Parking in Motion isn’t even finished working on its in-depth parking intel. Additional features we can expect soon include real-time parking availability (for both street parking and garages) and street parking rules, restrictions, and meter locations. You’ll even be able to pay your meter from your smartphone (of course, this will only be compatible with certain parking meter systems). Also, Android and BlackBerry apps are on the way.

My experience using PIM on my iPhone revealed a fast, no-lag mapping experience that is rare for location-based applications. The data was surprisingly accurate, and the extra information was convenient to have (but not always necessary). In many ways, this app represents what location-based mobile apps can be in the future on a more consistent basis.

For more information on covered cities in the U.S, Canada and Europe, visit PIM’s official website. You can download Parking in Motion for free in the App Store for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 4.
