With the recent release (and smashing success) of HALO: Reach, supposedly the final iteration that Bungie will be releasing, I expect we will see a lot of Master Chiefs (and other Spartans) out for Halloween this year. If it seems to be something that would be up your alley (and a very drunk Master Chief would be hilarious in and of itself), I present these instructions to build your own Halo Armor.
Grab a pen and a pencil, here’s what you are going to need:
– Ream of Heavyweight Card Stock
– 2 Aqua Resin Starter Kits
– 2 yds. Fiberglass Mat
– Nylon Straps and Buckles
– 4 ft. of Velcro
– A few feet of 1 in. Foam Padding
– Cheap Black Gloves
– Dark Colored Under clothes
I think you should have a pretty good idea of why you need each of these items, but if you’re looking for exact instructions, I’m afraid you’ll need to sign up as a premium member over at Instrucables to get it. At the very least, it’ll serve as a good starting point if you’re the “Do it Yourself” type that thinks you can put together a decent Master Chief costume with some velcro and nylon straps.
If you want to get your costume going with a little help, you can purchase a deluxe Master Chief Halo mask and cut out the middleman. Or you could just give up on the idea entirely and go with something smaller scale like these Halo Lego figures. Of course, going as “guy who built Halo Lego figures” doesn’t exactly have the same ring to it as Master Chief, but it’ll definitely be a whole lot cheaper and certainly less time consuming. Then again, it would be fun just to have a Master Chief costume lying around, but I wonder how flexible/durable the final product would be.
