With Hellboy, nothing is ordinary. The comic book character, created by Mike Mignola, is actually a demon who found his way to our world when Nazi occultists opened a doorway between earth and hell.
Brought up under the tutelage of Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, Hellboy grew up to be a Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD) ‘employee’ who works with other gifted creatures and protects us from evil forces.
Hellboy is a large red-skinned demon, with an over-sized right hand made of stone, two horns on the forehead that he continually files for a ‘normal’ appearance, occult symbols that are inscribed throughout his body, and a tail to top it off.
As we said, nothing is ordinary about this character. The oversized right hand made of stone is nicknamed the ‘Right Hand of Doom’. It is said that the right hand is a key that controls a dragon, and if the dragon is released, it will be the end of earth. In other words, the ‘Right Hand of Doom’ will cause Armageddon. Due to the character’s eclectic nature, Hellboy has a dedicated fan following that includes the Oscar-nominated Mexican director, Guillermo Del Toro.
Another Hellboy fan, designer Andrew Hillman, has fashioned a hoodie inspired by his favorite comic-book character. Like the character, the Hellboy hoodie too is eclectic and different from other hoodies. The hoodie is a red sweater with a black, cushion midriff. The sweater sports the same black symbols that one can find on the character. A large circle (made of cushion) is stitched on the back and inside it, a symbol of a hand holding a sword is engraved.
One of the standout features of the hoodie is the trademark ‘Right Hand of Doom’ that is made out of cloth, but looks as deadly as Hellboy’s right hand. The other, obviously has to be Hellboy’s horns that are featured on the hood part of the sweater.
Hellboy has largely been a niche comic book character. The series was never as popular any of the super hero series. Guillermo Del Toro brought the demon-character to life in big-screen adaptations, Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Due to Del Toro’s artistic and colorful rendition of the Hellboy universe, the two films have increased the mass appeal of the character. A third installment is under production.
Fans who may have wished to add the hoodie to their Hellboy collection would need to note that Andrew designed the hoodie for his younger brother. It is not for sale. Sad!
If you have liked this, I am sure you will want to at least take a look at Sark Lightning Hoodie and Green Lantern Hoodie.
