Phone booths might be something of an endangered species these days with the ubiquity of cellphones, but one project might be a bit smarter than all the rest.
Carla Pires de Carvalho Fernandes has designed a rain-shaped pay phone hood for the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. She’s one of several artists chosen to create designs for the city’s pay phones.
Even though many of us have long switched from using payphones when away from home (and making sure you had enough change, or praying that the other person would accept your collect call if you were really in a jam), it’s nice to have a backup in case your battery dies.
If you like this, then you might want to check out some converted gas pumps and the Nu-Ovo egg-shaped room.
