The Limera1n Jailbreak was just released a few days ago by geohot, and while it caused some tremors within the Jailbreak community, the Chronic Dev team have decided to use the same USB exploit and release their Greenpois0n Jailbreak as well.
Update (November 29, 2010): How to Jailbreak and Unlock iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G with Ultrasn0w 1.2, PwnageTool 4.1.3 and Redsn0w 0.9.6b5
Update (October 17, 2010): Greenpois0n Available for Mac and Linux
As they mention, the Limerain Jailbreak method presented an iOS 4.1 USB exploit and instead of using a new one, they went ahead and took advantage of the same one…as to have another method up their sleeve once Apple closes down on the 1st method; For the sake of Exploit preservation 🙂
The new Greenpois0n Jailbreak is for iOS 4.1 devices (anything below should use TinyUmbrella to preserve their baseband) and is Windows only (at this time). Moreover, Greenpoison is currently attending the following Apple devices only:
iPhone 4
iPhone 3GS
iPod Touch 4G
iPod Touch 3G
iPad
Future devices hopefully to also benefit from the Greenpois0n Jailbreak hack are the 2nd Generation Apple TV and the iPod Touch 2G.
[Note: we are not responsible for jailbreaking, hacking or amending your Apple devices. Any changes done are your sole responsibility]
greenpois0n only works on firmware 4.1, so (only if you have an iPhone 4!) if you are on a lower firmware make sure you use TinyUmbrella to preserve your baseband.
To download and Jailbreak compatible devices, make sure you are aware of what you are doing and you can download it at greenpois0n.com.
