Coming winter, it’s the return of the grandfather of all geek cult movies, the “Tron.” For the noobs blissfully unaware, the “Tron” universe began in 1982 with the Walt Disney motion picture and ushered us into a new age of digital cinema, followed by several game(s) and a comic book series. The latest offering in the franchise is the 2010 sequel, “Tron: Legacy” by Joseph Kosinski, slated for release on December 17th.
The son of Kevin Flynn, Sam Flynn gets sucked into the digital world while investigating a strange signal from the abandoned Flynn’s Arcade. Aided by the fearless warrior Quorra, the father-son duo embark on a perilous journey across the visually mesmerizing digital universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous. The super-mysterious and uber-cool, black, spandex-clad villain only makes it even more intriguing.
The familiar Light-cycles have been upgraded to “Light Runners”, a two-seater ATV version which is capabale of extremely high speeds and possesses the unique ability to go off the grid on its own power.
The soundtrack “Derezzed” by the French electronica duo, Daft Punk is definitely funky and sets the right mood for all that 3D digital action. Heck, they even made an appearance as a pair of DJ programs in the cyber world.
With the third sequel already in early stages of development and the game Tron: Evolution also slated for release this winter, Tron-mania is surely not going to fizzle out anytime soon.
Oh, how eagerly we await that day.
