A long series of days ago, in a location far, far away, a designer came up with the idea to create a set of shoes inspired by Star Wars.
Who are the two most loveable droids in the universe? Undoubtedly R2-D2 and … well, C-3PO might not be loveable, but he certainly has his moments. One of my favourite Threepio moments: C-3PO’s head was attached to the battle droid and he was still whining in his hilarious voice about being in battle. “Oh dear!”
Adidas has created a pair of shoes by fusing the elements of a traditional Adidas Original (i.e. the shoe shape and the classic three stripes) with the color scheme and graphics of R2-D2 and C-3PO. These shoes are unique as they are both split right down the middle: the sides facing each other are of C-3PO’s golden-shaped color, and the exteriors are of R2-D2’s white and chalk colors. They feature a leather upper, which serves for maximum comfort.
I’m a huge fan of the little details that Adidas has added. For example, the image of C-3PO and R2-D2 on the tongues of the shoes as well as the golden thumbnails at the back are nice touches. They manage to retain Adidas’ style and template, while also adding a certain flair to them. Even the font that C-3PO is written in at the back matches the Droids tag that is on the shoelace in front.
My favourite part of the shoe would be the C-3PO side, complete with the semi-reflective material. The black patches in between the three stripes on the C-3PO side even resembles cords and wires that can be found on the un-shelled parts of the droid, giving it a pretty authentic look.
Although the split halves are a unique idea and have worked out in many cases, I’d like to see individual pairs of shoes made for each respective droid. I think the C-3PO side looks much sharper than the R2-D2 side, which seems to come off as a bit dull.
Fellow fans, support the rebellion and have a look at the Star Wars collection of shoes that Adidas has made.
Also, Walyou’s already taken a look at Boba Fett running shoes, as well as a pair of Chewbacca shoes (which were made for Winter).
