A Portrait of Evil: Three Star Wars Tributes

Any truly memorable fictional universe needs a crop of amazing heroes for fans to cheer on and relate to as they conquer unspeakable evil and save the universe. And there are a lot of great ones in the Star Wars universe.

Wait a minute. Actually, besides Han Solo, there’s a whiny kid, a moody princess and a bunch of forgettable dudes with weird names. No, in Star Wars, the villains are what counts. Classic bad guys like Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and the faceless army of stormtroopers are what seared the movies into the collective unconsciousness.

If you make a lost of the greatest villains of all time, Darth is sure to make the top five. But Luke Skywalker? He’s lucky if he places higher than Cagney and Lacey on the all time heroes list.

In honor of Star Wars great adversaries, digital artist Mateusz Sypien has created three incredibly cool images of the Sith Lord Darth Vader, the intractable bounty hunter Boba Fett, and the unstoppable (regardless of how bad their aim is) Stormtrooper. These three portraits take the iconic helmets of the three and add some very cool lighting effects. The result is dark, high tech, and just dirty enough to perfectly capture George Lucas’ “used future” esthetic.

The images (and the t-shirts sadly) are just digital designs now, but here’s hoping one day someone at Lucasfilm makes them available for real. Come on, it’s not like they’rre afarid of overmarketing something.
