The Big Lebowski Rug: Tacky or Awesome?

You’ve really got to be a fan of The Big Lebowski to get this rug, which has more symbolism than I can even remember from my only time watching the film

The Big Lebowski is a quirky cult-favourite complete with weird characters and weirder dialogue, odd dream sequences, and a surreal film-noir style. This rug is the perfect combination of recognizable icons from the film (for example, the bowling pins and marijuana leaves), and just the right amount of muting in the colours and design to make the pattern look like an actual Buddhism-inspired geometrical rug.

Big Lebowski Rug

In the four corners of the rug, you can see four stylized leters that spell out the word “DUDE” –  just in case you weren’t sure what you were getting from the central image of The Dude holding a bowling ball in a very Buddhist sort of way. On a technical note, the rug is 3×5, which is a nice size for your living room or study – it would really tie the room together.

However, it’ll cost you $300, which is quite pricey unless you’re a die-hard fan of the film (though shipipng is free through most of America!)  It also won’t make the best Christmas present even if you’re buying for the world’s biggest Lebowski fan, as it might take up to a month to be shipped – which means that it likely won’t arrive until after New Years.

Rugs are featured widely in the movie; in fact, The Dude initially seeks out The Big Lebowski in hopes that the wealthier man will pay for the urine-induced damages inflicted on his own rug by men who thought that The Dude was the wealthier Lebowski. The Dude eventually steals one of Lebowski’s own rugs to replace his own, but this rug also soon disappears. The Duddha rug would be a great replacement for The Dude’s stolen rug, though perhaps a bit too self-indulgent.
