Animated pictures, now and 60-70-80 years ago, back when Disney was just getting started, always come from somewhere. Of course, classical stories and fairy tales most of the time, but the look of the movie has to come from somewhere.
Sometimes its concept art, many times unrelated to the actual creation of the film. Once the film is approved, it’s all about character sketches, color keys and storyboard panels, that are shaped and molded into some of the greatest classic to feature on the silver screen.
