Cosplay on a Budget Gone Wrong

Sometimes it is better not to try than to try and fail. Some people try to make their own costumes, and while the effort is commendable, the outcome…well, not so much.Halloween is coming up soon, and you know what that means, time to start thinking about costume ideas. Some people choose to dust off their old costume from last year, but other people want to go for something new. (There is also that group of people that have gained a few extra pounds since last Halloween and maybe cannot fit into their costume…oops.) Unfortunately, as many people can attest to, costumes do not come cheap. Every piece is sold separately  totaling a not-so-nominal fee, or the outfit is sold altogether, seemingly costing your entire budget for the next few months. Is it fair? No, not really, but costume companies get over it year after year because, well, we need costumes and they have costumes. It is the law of supply and demand my friends. And unfortunately, we demand costumes.

However, rather that go out and spend your rent for the month on an over-priced costume you may get one use out of, many people are opting to make their own costumes. DIY cosplay is not a new idea, but it is gaining popularity as more and more people are looking to stay within a certain budget, one that most costume vendors do not understand. People will spend ages finding the perfect (cheap) accouterments that will make their costume amazing and not cost them an arm and a leg. And while some of these DIY cosplay outfits are amazing, some, well, err, not so much. Some DIY cosplay on a budget goes horribly wrong, like an under-cooked apple pie or plastic surgery. While their effort may get a high score, the execution does not. Try as they might, the following costumes leave us scratching our heads rather than looking on in awe. Nice try guys, but better luck next time!
