Looking like something out of Star Trek, the G-POD is a fun, futuristic pod offering backyard benefits, including the ability to lounge about no matter the time of day or the weather outside.
It is a beautiful weekend day an all you want to do is relax in your…pod? The G-POD is a new futuristic design that looks a bit like the cabins on the London Eye. This prefabricated pod is a portable unit that you can purchase in a variety of options, including office, dining room, and of course, backyard lounge. Because, really, if it is a nice day, wouldn’t you rather work outdoors but indoors in a pod? (Take a moment and then that WILL make sense.)
The G-POD was created by Birmingham, United Kingdom garden specialists, Ornate Garden. The Deluxe Summerhouse pod is ten feet (three meters) in diameter and has a curved wooden frame, tinted UV-protected polycarbonate windows, and a stainless steel roof. There are two sofas inside that can fit up to ten and can include a 12 volt charging system and 20 watt solar panel if the consumer wants. There is also the larger Diner Pod that has the same frame but instead of couches as a full-size dining room table which can comfortably fit 14. There are other sized options as well, but this gives you a feel for it. Don’t worry about it getting hot inside the G-POD because every window has mirror polished stainless steel louvers to reflect heat. This will keep the interior cool.
Currently, the price for the G-POD starts at $14,995 and can go up to $34,995 depending on what model you opt for. If you want to take a closer look, the G-POD is going to be on display from June 22 – 24, 2012 in Los Angeles, California and the Dwell on Design Show.
While it sounds like an interesting design, I am not quite sure I want my backyard filled with pods? I thought the whole reason to be outdoors was to enjoy it. But c’est la vie. Although, wouldn’t it be interesting if you could close the doors and turn the pods into giant hamster balls? Come on, I am not the only one who was thinking this. Right? Right??
