Some of the iPod Touch owners were really waiting for this update since it improves battery life of the iPod Touch and makes the User Interface much smoother. This 2.1 firmware update is free for those who have already bought the previous 2.0 firmware for the iPod Touch. For all others who have yet to set foot in 2.0 Firmware update land, this new 2.1 firmware update will cost $9.95.
This update will fix the app crashing bug of the iPod Touch and includes the Contact Search. The iPod Touch 2.1 firmware also adds up a feature called “Genius Feature”: “Say you’re listening to a song you really like and want to hear other tracks that go great with it. With a few taps, the new Genius feature finds the songs in your library that go great together and makes a Genius Playlist for you. You can listen to the playlist right away, save it for later, or even refresh it and give it another go.”
Additional features are the Updated Keyboard and Dictionary Support, Scientific Calculator, Multiple Calendar Capability, MobileMe, Email pushing through Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, New Mail Management Features and Mail Attachment Viewing Capability.
You will need to download or update iTunes to the Latest 8.0 version in order to download the new 2.1 firmware update through iTunes. Now only if someone could update the WinPWN to jailbreak this new firmware, I would happily update.
