For those of you who do not know, Les Paul (Lester William Polsfuss) was one of the pioneers in the development of the solid-body electric guitar. Today’s Google Doodle marks 96 years from the birth of this extraordinary man.
Basically, without this man, rock’n’roll as well as a lot of music genres that rely on the use of electric guitars, would not have existed today. Les Paul was born on June 9th 1915 and is known all over the world not only as an inventor, but also as a jazz and country guitarist.
You may wonder what makes today’s doodle so special. Well, Google decided to use more than just a static image. The guitar strings are not only colored differently, but they also make different sounds when hovering the mouse pointer over them. More than that, a part of the stylized G resembles a guitar bridge, while the L looks very much like a guitar pickup. With this doodle, Google intends to turn the average Joe into an amateur guitarist, and this innovative intention is really worth some appreciation. However, the guitar-doodle may not be suitable for work, as it may affect productivity on one hand and it may disturb the other people, on the other hand.
As in the case of all the other Google doodles, if you click on the logo, you will see the search results for the subject of the anniversary. In this case, you will see the search results for Les Paul. This way, you can learn something about the legend and his legacy. One of the most famous instruments to bear his name is the worldwide popular Gibson Les Paul electric guitar. Les Paul also contributed in the development of this instrument.
