Imagine this – The year is 2020; a presenter walks on stage with the spotlight firmly on him. He removes a square shaped device from his pocket: it is a mobile phone.
The presenter then proceeds to present different shapes of the phone: a spherical shape, a circular shape, a flat disc-like shape, a rectangular shape, and other eclectic shapes. All the mobile phones function perfectly. The audience claps enthusiastically expressing their delight.
The presenter waves his hand and the audience falls into a hush. He presses a button on the phone and it projects a large blue screen that contains the display of the phone. The audience lets out a gasp of wonder. The presenter can play songs and videos by pressing the play buttons on the projected screen, play a game of chess where he moves the pawns on the screen, and to top it off, he can even resize the screen by using. The audience now bursts into a rapturous applause replete with whistles; the presenter takes a bow.
This is not the launch of an Apple product, nor is the presenter Steve Jobs. This would be the ovation when the ‘Magic Stone’ receives when it is unleashed on the public. Magic Stone is currently a concept phone, designed by the highly imaginative Ukrainian artist Aleksander Mukomelov. The concept won the Red Dot design award in 2009 and now has tech teams devoted to making it a practical reality.
This concept phone has a beautiful, full touch display (no buttons whatsoever) with a flexible exterior and a screen that can be projected as a holograph .You can also scan text content from books and magazines and store it on the phone. The phone has a virtual keyboard feature that allows you to type messages and mails on a magnified keyboard holograph projected by the phone.
Mobile phones are no longer just communication devices. Users are constantly personalizing their phones through personalized themes, ringtones, and external body covers. The ubiquitous mobile has become a symbol of self-expression.
Magic Stone takes the personal mobile experience to a completely different level. The phone’s revolutionary approach lies in enabling the user to decide the phone’s shape, body color, and the display theme right at the manufacturing stage. In other words, you play the designer instructing a team on how to model your Magic Stone phone. Think of it as your own personal brand of mobile phone.
The concept is named Magic Stone since the design looks and feels like a smooth slab of stone. The ergonomic and visually stunning concept is going to be the next wave of mobile phone technology.
