With the release of the widely anticipated color E Ink displays recently, we take a look at a line of watches which abandon conventional LED and LCD displays for E Ink ones.
The humble watch may have lost its core function to other portable devices that readily display the time in addition to doing so much more, but it secretly keeps evolving and offering features which make it an object of desire. We love sleek watch designs here at Walyou, especially those that offer unique features compared to their counterparts.
The E Ink technology has been around for a while now, and if you keep up with tech news, you might have noticed a plethora of E Ink readers present in the market today. However, with limited demand and relatively smaller amount of manufacturers entering the fray as compared to other gadgets, they still remain expensive. So it’s good to see that now, we see this technology being integrated into watches, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to get your hands on one of them.
Phosphor watches provide a unique combination of minimalism and contemporary design. E Ink technology is a boon for such devices due to its low power consumption, high contrast, and easy readability in direct sunlight. The displays are as close to paper as you’ll get. The watch display, though only grayscale at this point in time, looks gorgeous. We can’t wait to see the results once the color E Ink technology permeates into the market.
The watches let you choose between a variety of different display modes, including white against a black background or vice versa. We haven’t seen time devices this pretty in a long time.
For some other watches which offer unique ways of displaying the time, check out the Night Vision watch and the Changing Lanes watch, both from – you guessed it, Tokyoflash.
