While avid fantasy fans are frequently just as nerdy as sci-fi ones, they’re often ignored when it comes to the production of goods and gadgets featuring their favourite fandoms.
Luckily, it looks like this lack of merchandise has been recognized and has resulted in the production of this fantastic Tolkien-themed beer stein.
The Hobbit stein is a massive sculpted stoneware mug that brings J.R.R. Tolkien’s famous novel, The Hobbit, to life. The entire stein is painted to depict the scene in which Bilbo Baggins, the protagonist of the novel, is inside Smaug’s lair and is being chased by the ferocious red dragon.
Besides the lovely artwork, the stein also contains some great details – particularly the carving of the One Ring atop the pewter lid. The rune carvings around the base of the vessel also contribute to the rustic feel of the piece, along with the other stoneware details on the top of the stein and on its handle.
It’s great to see that Bilbo is finally getting some appreciation, having been generally outdone by his adoptive heir/nephew Frodo in so many ways. Sure, Frodo did defeat the evil Dark Lord Sauron and the One Ring, Bilbo was the one to recover the ring in the first place – plus, he managed to live with it for 60 years without becoming corrupted by its power. While The Hobbit memorabilia is hard to find, there are plenty of art pieces and crafts that depict characters from The Lord of the Rings.
