Apple Fixes iPhone SMS Hack with iPhone OS 3.0.1 Solution

iphone sms hack virus patch

A lot of news was mentioned about the recently found iPhone SMS hack which could provide a hacker the ability to hijack and take control of your iPhone, but Apple quickly responded with an update to amend the security issue.

The iPhone SMS hack (or iPhone virus as many like to call it) arrives as an SMS message with one square image in it. This hack will then provide the hacker the ability to have complete control over your iPhone, including making calls, sending text messages and increasingly spreading the iPhone virus to your contact list.

After this iPhone security issue was found, Apple investigated the major problem and provided a solution in the new iPhone OS 3.0.1 that is available right now through iTunes.

Apple goes on to explain in short about this recent iPhone virus by stating the impact of the problem and the remedy delivered with the new iPhone OS update:

“A memory corruption issue exists in the decoding of SMS messages. Receiving a maliciously crafted SMS message may lead to an unexpected service interruption or arbitrary code execution. This update addresses the issue through improved error handling. Credit to Charlie Miller of Independent Security Evaluators, and Collin Mulliner of Technical University Berlin for reporting this issue.”

I am certain many iPhone users are both excited that the issue was solved, and that Apple reacted so quickly with a fix.
