Panoramic and time-lapse photography have become very popular in the past few years. In this context, gadgets that reduce the effort of shooting in this manner are more than welcome.
Panoramic photography might not be very challenging, but it still requires a lot of attention. On the other hand, professional photographers who are into time-lapse and tilt-shifting photography often employ very complex and expensive systems for shooting using these techniques. LA-based Zhiping Chen and Daniel Aharoni considered that it’s about time for casual photographers to have an accessory for panorama photos and time-lapse videos that’s easy to carry and does not break the bank.
One of the best things about Spinpod is that it packs a mounting system that allows using point-and-shoot or even DSLR cameras. Smartphone cameras are getting better and better, but they’re still no match for the DSLRs.
However, if people should decide to use their smartphone in tandem with the Spinpod, then they must know that the device can be placed vertically in the slot or horizontally, with the help of another mounting system. Fortunately, iPhone users are not the only ones who will be able to use the Spinpod. This amazing gadget works perfectly fine with Android devices, too. Spinpod’s battery is said to last for up to 10 hours of panoramic shooting or up to 100 hours of time-lapse use. Either way, it’s pretty safe to say that your smartphone’s battery will be the one to die first.
In addition, two Spinpods can be employed simultaneously by locking them with an L-bracket. This is particularly convenient when shooting tilt-shifting photography. No matter how many Spinpod accessories photographers will take with them, it’s guaranteed that all of them will fit in a pocket, along with the main device itself. After all, the Spinpod only measures 2.5″ by 0.5″ (64 x 13 mm).
Spinpod is currently listed on Kickstarter , where its developers hope to raise $75,000. At press time, $52,228 were pledged of the total goal, and with 18 more days to go, I’d say this project has great chances of becoming reality.
