Funky Retro Ads to Promote Facebook, Skype, YouTube and Twitter

An ad agency in Sao Paulo called MOMA sure took a step in the right direction when they designed ads with a vintage and retro flair to promote Maximidia’s Seminars on the new and upcoming world of social media.

The theme chosen was “Everything Ages Fast” and some of the ads featured were created specifically for Skype, Facebook and YouTube. The essence of those social media sites were captured quite remarkably!

Personally, I’ve always liked the vintage style ads and posters that reminds one of the simple yet content life our grand parents enjoyed in the 1940’s and 1950’s. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m the proud owner of a  Henry Toulouse-Lautrec print, titled Jane Avril. Even though our grand parents could never envision the phenomena we call FaceBook and YouTube, (and still can’t quite grasp it today, bless them) this is one campaign that simply boils over with brilliancy.

My personal favourite is the Skype ad:

vintage skype

The main heading boldly declares: SKYPE ® – The Fabulous Voice System Able To Put Your Family Toghether!

The rest of the ad sums Skype’s services up quite well: Skype has the finest quality for you and your relatives to communicate via the internet. The healthiest, most economical and secure way to keep vigorous family bonds miles away. It’s more than a telephone. It’s a real audio-visual miracle that will put you in contact with a brand new world.

I like the design; the 50’s style setting of the floral print wall paper and the wifey (I suppose) wearing her vintage apron, combined with an interesting pair of headphones. Even more interesting is her computer! Can somebody design one like that for me? If only they had PC’s like that in the 1950’s… It has a screen, weird looking keyboard, and from what I can gather even a mouse and webcam that looks oddly enough like the ancient photographic cameras with the big black veil and blinding flashing light… Ah don’t you just love vintage?

vintage facebook

Facebook – Striking Miraculous Social Team Up! Share abundantly your photographs, experiences and stories with your friends and families. For leasure or labour, Facebook is the enchantment “next look” in social team ups. Eloquent economical and modern examples of communication adequate for our times. THE FACEBOOK COMPANY. (Notice her awesome keyboard, and what would appear to be a phone. Is it just me or does the computer screen look a little bit like the Starship Enterprise…)

vintage youtube

Your films will last forever on YOUTUBE, the champion address on internet! Send and watch splendid and captivating films, 24/7 sports, news, commercials and much more. The most charming and magnificent way to entertain the whole family. (Oh to own a video camera like that again! I’m not completely certain, but zoom in – the dude might have been watching a slightly naughty clip…)
