A dress made out of 50,000 gummy bears?! That sounds good enough to eat. But I wouldn’t want to be the woman in the dress when it starts getting hot!
Today, fashion is being made out of everything aside from average fabric – everything from red wine to chocolate to pop tabs can be made into stunning couture fashion anyone would love to wear on a night out on the town. So, it should come as no shock to you that the newest fashion “material” to be hitting the scenes is none other than one of the most popular candies around – gummy bears.
TWELV, a new magazine, had their editor-in-chief and fashion editor, Hissa Igarashi and Sayuri Marakumi respectively, create a beautiful ball gown dress made out of more than 50,000 gummy bears. Styled from a dress that was part of the spring/summer 2008 Alexander McQueen collection, this beautiful creation, designed for the cover of the debut issue of the magazine, weighed over 200 pounds!
To make the dress, first designers had to twist steel wire into the shape of the dress. The wire was then covered in vinyl sheets and each gummy bear, one at a time, was glued on to create a stunning pattern.
In total, this dress took approximately three weeks to finish and three people were needed on set to help with the weight of the dress.
Now, do not get me wrong, I am all about fashion AND I am all about gummy bears, but I don’t know if gummy bear haute couture is going to be the next big thing. Personally, I would try to eat the dress rather than wear it…or while wearing it actually. All I would have left to show for it would be a toothache and most likely a ticket for indecent exposure.
