The iPhone download blog recently featured an interesting new docking station too big to fit onto a table – it IS the table. Kyle Buckner, the designer, uploaded a video of his iTable on YouTube to show off just how much of a table it truly is.
I don’t think I can get behind this cumbersome looking table as strongly as a lot of apple fan-boys seem to be doing. It looks like it was designed by somebody whose only point of reference for what a table should look like is an iPhone 4, which more or less sums up the design: It looks like four giant iPhone 4s stacked on top of each other. I suppose it some might say that it has a “retro” design what with all the metal on the sides. It looks like it could have been plucked right out of an old-timey diner. I should mention that the intended purpose of this table is primarily as a docking station for your iPhone or iPod. With the swoop of your hand over the embedded buttons on the surface of the table, a set of high-end transductor and motorized speakers emerge from the back. In addition to that, the table comes equipped with a down-facing 6″ sub woofer to “enrich you with a quality sound experience”.
In case you were worried that there was no place to put your hand-crafted, micro-brewed beer (you know, seeing as it’s a table and all), then fear not because there are also two aluminum trimmed cup holders that light up with LEDs. Yes, you don’t have to get up from where you’re sitting and turn on the light to find your drink.
