As most rumors coming from questionable sources, the specs of the Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra should be taken with a grain of salt. However, if these happen to be true, Sony’s flagship tablet for 2015 might be unlike anything we’ve seen before.
First of all, the rumored super-sharp 13-inch display will be larger than what we get in most of today’s tablets. Knowing that the Xperia Z line is made entirely of premium products, it’s anyone’s guess that the Z4 Ultra won’t be built for gaming. Don’t get me wrong, it will pack enough power to run any Android game you could ever throw at it, but the ultimate goal of this tablet is to boost productivity. There are situations when a laptop is too heavy to carry around and a smartphone doesn’t have a big enough of a display to view all the details of a spreadsheet, for example, without having to zoom in and out every time. In such situations, a large tablet such as the Z4 Ultra seems to be the ideal choice. Not only the size, but also the resolution of 3840×2400 pixels suggests that Sony’s next tablet is made for the office.
And then there’s the RAM. Thought that 2 or 3GB of RAM are an overkill on the most recent smartphones and tablets? Then how about 6GB? That’s how much the Z4 Ultra is rumored to have. I guess that app developers are getting lazier with each passing day and instead of optimizing their apps to consume less resources, they simply encourage hardware developers to create monstrous devices.
Besides that, the Z4 Ultra will feature Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor clocked at 2.86GHz, and soon enough, tablets will perform better than desktop PCs or high-end laptops. Add to that 64GB of internal storage as default (which will be furthermore expandable via microSD), and you end up with a truly powerful device.
Even though the chassis is slim by all standards, there’s a 12,100mAh battery hiding under the hood, so chances of the tablet running out of juice right in the middle of work are slim to none. It remains to be seen next month at CES if these rumors get confirmed, as well as other details Sony might have in store for us.
