PlayStation 4 users already get to enjoy remote play on PS Vita and select Sony smartphones, but the feature might be coming to all Android devices.
The release of Sony’s Xperia Z3 made the rounds at tech & gadgets sites as it was set to become the first smartphone capable of pairing with a PS4 to do remote play, similarly to what the PS Vita users are already enjoying in their own portable consoles. While this is still set to happen, it might not be the only one as XDA Developers have claimed that this feature will be ported to all android devices, wheter Sony wants it or not (Sony claimed they had “no intent to bring remote play to any device other than Xperia”).
An XDA forum user who goes by XperiaPlaystation was the man behind this port, who explained that it “is to be installed by flashing the provided ZIP package and installing the provided APK as a normal app plus a few extra steps in between such as wiping the cache and rebooting. The port will work only with devices running Android 4.0 or newer. Additionally, Xperia Z1 owners may have an additional step of changing the build.prop in order to get this up and running.”
