A Real Rorschach Mask: What Does Your Face Look Like Now?

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Watchmen, an infamous character named Rorschach bore one of the creepiest masks to have ever been imagined because it changes perpetually. Now that mask can be yours!

The creation of a real Rorschach blot mask is surprisingly simple. All you need is thermochromic paint pigment, which is a black powder, and a clear screen-printing base, a thick gooey liquid. When you mix these two products together you end up with a special kind of paint whose color fades in and out depending on the amount of heat it’s exposed to.

That’s where the real fun begins. If you slap this paint on to a slab of fabric, fold it over so that you get a Rorschach test slide and make turn the fabric in to a mask, you’ll have a mask just like Rorschach’s!

Since the paint is reactive to heat, the warmth of your breath will cause the color of the paint to fade away, leaving only the color of the fabric visible, and then reappear. The thicker the film of paint, the less the color will fade.

Now how creepy is that? But, as creepy as it may be, it’s certainly one of the coolest costume ideas you’ll ever have! After the mask, slapping on a trench coat and a brown top hat will be the finishing touch to your authentic Rorschach guise.

Making a real Rorschach mask like this is a must for any die-hard fan of Watchmen or just the character Rorschach, who has proven to be everybody’s favorite member of the Minutemen. I don’t know about you, but five minutes away from that mask would have me screaming Rorschach’s legendary lines “Where’s my face?!”
