For those that want to avoid anything Apple related, this Ericsson concept Android Xperia tablet might be right up your alley.
The Ericsson X Tab is only a concept design first introduced on the Esato board by user juris15. The tablet design is based of the Ericsson Xperia smartphone and would use the same Sony Bravia engine as the phone. According to the concept designer, the tablet would have the following features:
- 7 inch display screen
- runs on Sony Bravia engine
- 8.1 megapixel rear camera with Exmor R sensor, Sony Lens and LED flash
- 62 MB internal storage
- 32 MB external microSD storage
- 4 easy to use navigation buttons
The Bravia engine is part of Sony’s multimedia experience and has been part of Sony’s LCD TV since 2005. The Exmor R allows for low-light photography and video capture for mobile units. Since this is a concept, it might also be safe to say that the tablet will also run off the Android platform like the Xperia smartphone.
Should Ericsson decide to release a tablet, one of the issues to avoid is being too much like the smartphone. To combat the iPad, Ericsson could allow for multiple program use, which would require a larger processor. With a larger processor and a larger internal memory, the tablet might even be able to handle light versions of Adobe Photoshop and maybe even some very basic film editing programs to utilize the crisp images and excellent image capture from the Exmor R sensor.
The Ericsson smartphone is due for release April 1, 2011 (yes, April Fool’s Day, though we hope that isn’t a joke) with a price tag of around $730. While the tablet is currently just a concept, it’s only a matter of time before other companies begin creating their own in order to compete against Apple. This tablet design is both sleek and would rival the iPad.
