Leaked Images Hint at White Version of Nexus 5

The next Nexus is the smartphone we know almost everything about even before its official launch day. The latest leaked images point out that a white version will also be available.

In an attempt to make the Nexus 5 more appealing to the masses, LG and Google decided to launch the smartphone in two color options, respectively black and white. Mind you, the difference only refers to the face of the device, as the back is black. Some people are wondering why hasn’t the South Korean manufacturer made a case that is entirely white. Nexus 4 didn’t get a white version till 7 months after its launch, so the decision to release the Nexus 5 in two colors simultaneously is a bit surprising.

Initially it was believed that Google will launch the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat on October 14, but since that day has passed, the next rumored date is November 1. There will also be an LG press conference in Tel-Aviv on November 5, but most assume that this is just a local launch of the two products.

Believe it or not, the Nexus 5 has also been unboxed before its launch day, so there aren’t actually many surprises left for Google to show us. Still, considering its specs (a 4.95-inch 1080p display, a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and an 8-megapixel rear camera) and the relatively low price ($299 for the 16GB version and $349 for the 32GB one), the Nexus 5 will represent an opponent difficult to compete against.

Regarding Android 4.4 KitKat, it is said that it will spread some love to budget handsets. Most newly released Android smartphones and tablets come with 2 or even 3GB of RAM, but according to a new leak, KitKat could represent the end of fragmentation for this mobile OS. In other words, entry level devices with just as little as 512MB of RAM could run Android 4.4. Besides improved performance for low-memory devices, KitKat will also come with improved support for wearable tech. This conclusion was drawn after finding out that Google implemented in Android 4.4 KitKat support for three new sensors: a step detector, a step counter and a geomagnetic rotation vector. Google Glass would be among the first products to benefit from the new features. At the same time, this could mean that the chances of Google Watch becoming a reality have just increased a lot.
