If someone told me that they were going to make an Empire Strikes back chess set made out of legos (chronologically the second one, not “LOL prequel” movies), I’d be a little skeptical.
After all, if you are going to stay loyal to the source material, the AT-ATs would be just shy of unstoppable except for a few snowspeeder cables and the pawns on the rebel side would only be able to run off the board or stay and randomly explode. Still I have to say that this recreation of the classic game looks rather impressive and includes all of our favorite characters like Yoda and Han Solo.
I’m not sure how stationary laser platforms move around (I think snowspeeders would be a better choice here) but all of the other pieces seem to make sense. The bishops are definitely the most interesting, with mini dioramas depicting some of our favorite scenes. The Empire queen looks like to be….well actually I have no idea what it is. If you do know, feel free to let me know, because I’m a bit lost on that one. No Star Wars chess set would be complete without an appearance from our favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett, and naturally he has a place on the board, too.
If you’re looking for other Star Wars goodness, you can make yourself a sandwich from far far away with these Star Wars Sandwich Cutters. If you want to stick with the Empire Strikes Back, there’s also this making of an AT-AT Day Afternoon.
