What’s the scariest thing about sharks? Their teeth? Our perception that they’re underwater murder machines? Well, yeah, a bit, maybe, but there’s that line from Jaws, when Quint tells the story of his ship going down and survivors getting eaten by sharks – You know, the thing about a shark… he’s got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll’s eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn’t seem to be living… until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then… ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin’. The ocean turns red, and despite all the poundin’ and the hollerin’, they all come in and they… rip you to pieces.
Now that I’ve given you A) material for nightmares and/or B) An urge to watch the movie, I’ll have to say the man is right. I’ve done some diving before, and although I’ve never gotten to encounter any Great White’s, even smaller and less intimidating sharks have that something in their eyes.
Maybe that’s what the person doing the art on Bouletcorp.com has in mind when he draws up these brilliant works of TV show casts. I love his Arrested Development one, with the show’s zanyness captured perfectly. I love his Game of Thrones (I love everything about GOT, lets face it), although it’s just the Starks. I love the Breaking Bad one, and although I hate Firefly, the art is pretty good.
The problem with all of them, or maybe that’s the magic of these drawings, is the eyes. Black, empty, soulless. Sucks you right in, and creeps you the f&*^ out.
