New Job Hunting App Offered by Facebook

The popular social media website is now launching an app to help you find a job. So in between posting memes and silly status updates, you can now look for employment!

How many of you spend lots of wasteful hours on Facebook? Don’t lie. The truth is we all spend hours on the social media websites, posting inane status updates, pictures of our pets, and news articles we want others to read. Hours can go by before you realize that you just wasted half the day cyber stalking exes, people you do not like, and celebrities. Well, now this casual social networking websites is adding another thing, but this is not so much a time waster as a time helper – a job hunting app!

On November 14, Facebook officially launched the new Social Job app for those living in the United States. This app is an aggregate, providing over one million employment listings from some of the top job hunting websites, including, BranchOut, Jobvite, and Work4Labs. It was created with a partnership between Facebook and the National Association of State Workforce Agencies, the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the DirectEmployers Association, and the United States Department of Labor.

There is a ticker on the top of the app to tell users the total number of jobs available at a certain time. Through this app, users are able to narrow their job search and filter out the jobs they do not want via their geographic location, present categories and subcategories for occupation, and various keywords.

According to reps over at Facebook, the creation of this job hunting app was part of the natural evolution of Facebook. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, approximately 50 percent of all employers are already using Facebook to some extent to aid in their hiring process. It also lowers print advertising costs as well when it comes to recruitment purposes.

So next time your unemployed behind is on Facebook, why don’t you check for jobs as well!
