Sometimes What You See Is NOT What You Get!

Beware when buying a USB drive outside regular computer stores or through street vendors. Sometimes it can be a scam! We deserve to get what we paid for but sometimes it goes too far. The picture by gigatigga easily shows a fake USB flash drive opened to illustrate why it would not work. This is not the first time I heard of this scam.

A good friend of mine bought a Sony 4GB flash drive in China, but when he came back home he discovered that it simply did not work. Of course Sony didn’t have anything to do with it. It was simply fraud by the street vendor. My friend is one out of many customers that encountered such experiences. Running a simple Google search on such incidents, I found many examples from users saying that people sold them fake USB drives on the street, on the internet, and even on eBay. So if you consider buying such electronics, please read users’ comments and do not be tempted by price alone.

Xbox 360: Long repair times

Microsoft has heard the cries of their customers and extended the Xbox 360 warranty to three years. With this, the repair times have also been extended. Many are sending in their Xbox 360s for repairs and have realized that waiting times have grew. Instead of the two weeks that many have been accustomed to, repairs are now taking as long as six weeks.

Of course we can always say that since there are more repairs, there are longer waiting times. But why are there more repairs? The warranty has been extended, not the hardware, features, options, etc.

Build your own home cinema projector

A few years ago, I used to spend a lot of time on eBay trying to spot attractive bargains for LCD screens and video projectors. Auctioning sites are an excellent place to find out about price levels and market demand but they also provide impostors and swindlers with a stage. In the eBay offerings you’ll often find DIY and step by step books that will tell you how easy it is to make a video projector yourself using only a cardboard box and an old LCD screen. Out of curiosity I decided to invest the $39.99 to purchase such an online book but, to my great disappointment, I never received it. Not only was I upset about losing my money but I was frustrated I wouldn’t get a chance at building the projector.

All this time, I thought the whole “build your own projector” was a scam and that it was technologically impossible to realize until I found this cool video on Youtube where you can see how to do it yourself. In fact, using an LCD monitor, an overhead projector, a cooling fan and a little of your time you can actually create your own home cinema projector.
You don’t need to spend a foolish 40 bucks, just check out the video to find out.

Mac OS X-based iPod in one week?

For those who have been planning on buying a new iPod, hold your breath just a little longer. Apple Inc has confirmed a “Special Event” that will be held on the 5th of September. Inside sources say that a new Mac-OS X-based iPod will be unveiled. Since the iPod inventories in major retailers are dwindling, this seems very probable. There have also been some rumors that the new iPod may include WiFi capabilities although there hasn’t been any confirmation yet.

For everyone that can’t wait for a week, here is a video from Youtube with some fans’ guesses on what this new iPod will look like.

How To Hack a 12 Volt Battery!

This can save you a lot of money!
Have you ever needed a 1.5v battery for your alarm clock, laser pointer, calculators etc.? Instead of buying expensive batteries in Walmart or Best Buy, you can easily save around $40 by simply hacking an A23 12v battery.
The video below explains a step by step how to turn the 12v battery into eight small 1.5v batteries.

*Update: From what we have heard this hack works better with Duracell or Energizer batteries. To avoid any danger it is recommended to use the small batteries for appliances with a low energy consumption. Do not use the batteries on expensive devices since there is a risk of leakage that would damage the device and your health.

Build a Wii balance board yourself

We love our video games, but the accessories and auxillaries are sometimes really expensive. Sometimes we have to choose between buying brand new games with all new adventures, stories, and challenges, or buying those additional items that may grant our old games a new life. For those that would rather spend the money on the games and may appreciate the challenge of creating something all by yourselves, someone has the solution. You can now build a Nintendo Wii balance board for only $20.

NintendoWiiFanBoy has step by step instruction how to do it yourself here and the video is below.
