Guess what happens if you place a portal on the wall of your bedroom and the other portal on another wall of the same room? Obviously, you end up pretty much where you left from.
When she’s not working as an accountant in Oklahoma or painting, Lauren Jennings enjoys playing Portal so much that she decided to redecorate her bedroom so that it bears the theme of Valve’s rave game. After all, she needs some sleep in-between all her daily adventures.
Lauren gives people some insight about this room on the blog she created for this project, The Portal Bedroom: “I looked all over the Internet to see if anybody else had designed a Portal-themed bedroom yet that I could get some inspiration from. I found a few rooms, and some of them were pretty cool, but I just couldn’t find one that I absolutely loved. So I issued myself a challenge: To design from scratch a Portal-themed bedroom that while obviously Portal, would also be aesthetically-pleasing enough that any non-gamer could still look at it and go ‘Hey, that’s a really neat looking room!’ rather than ‘What’s up with all the weird stuff on the walls?'”
The portal effect was created with infinity mirrors. The LEDs surrounding the inner frame of the mirrors make a spectacular effect. A Portal gun replica, much like the limited edition that was briefly available on ThinkGeek, adorns a cabinet. The multifunction printer next to it is probably the only Earthly element in this room.
The bedroom looks particularly nice when the lights are turned on. The paintings, the portals and the gun make a terrific atmosphere!
The turret from the above picture reminded me of The Turret Anthem, which I loved despite its dubstep-ish vibe and the Auto-Tune effect. There’s also a cup next to it, which has the Aperture Labs logo. To me, that’s a clear sign that Lauren is a bit obsessed about anything-Portal. In a good way, of course!
Here’s a closer look at the gun and the illustrations that cover the cupboard beneath it. If that’s not pure awesomeness, I don’t know what is!
Near the Aperture cup there are also some books that are held together by Portal bookends. Lauren certainly knows how to do everything with style.
The inhabitant of this bedroom only gets to learn the truth after opening the door to go out: “the cake is a lie” is written repeatedly. The cake might be, but this bedroom certainly isn’t!
