It’s been more than a few years since Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, and those other two dudes donned their khaki jumpsuits and proton power packs to battle with spectral invaders, but the “Ghostbuster” legacy is alive and well.
The movie is a perennial home video and cable favorite, there have been hundreds of spin-off comics, cartoons, and toys, and the iconic Ghostbusters logo is a part of the cultural landscape. With talk of the long gestating third movie heating up on the ‘Net, it’s no surprise that everyone’s favorite spook catchers are still “the gentlemen to whom you are going to telephone” when you have an infestation from the other side. Especially a marshmallow based one.
With that in mind, Underground Toys is offering a plush version of that giant marshmallow engine of sugary destruction, The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. For $19.99, you can have a scaled down version of the monster who tried to destroy New York and ended up as piles and piles of melted mallow. At full size, he was a terror of confectionery chaos, but the small version is cute and cuddly enough to make you forget all the smashed buildings and trampled civilians. It comes in happy or angry versions, and since we’re talking about a piece of “Ghostbusters” merchandise, you’ve got to have the kicking 80s theme song, right? Push the button on Stay-Puft’s adorable tummy, and you’ll be rocking out to Ray Parker Jr’s R&B classic. The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man is cute, funky, and you better believe it ain’t afraid of no ghosts. You shouldn’t be either because there’s no such thing.
