Yes, sometimes the competition isn’t about being the prettiest, it’s about being the ugliest, if that can actually be measured. Beauty doesn’t always get you first place, but ugliness might, even if it’s a bit distorted in order to gain an advantage.
In a festival over in Basque country, Spain, people take part in what is called the “Concurso de Feos”, which is pretty much translated into the “Ugly Competition”, all as part of the Aste Nagusia (Great Week) fiestas in Bilbao, celebrating (or just by chance of date) the end of the summer.
