Zero Point Energy Field Manipulators For Die-Hard HL2 Fans

The Mayan apocalypse is gone, but this doesn’t mean that you should stop worrying. To get ready for the zombie apocalypse, you should buy yourself a gravity gun or at least a replica of the Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator from Half Life 2.

ThinkGeek has been keen lately to turn iconic things from games and films into real, palpable gadgets. If a few weeks ago they presented a 1:1 replica of HAL 9000 from Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey”, now it’s time for Valve fans to get some geeky love. Mind you, they also have a few Portal guns for sale, but this time it’s Half Life 2’s turn, as a 1:1 replica of the Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator (ZPEFM) emerges.

In fact, ThinkGeek has been chosen by NECA to distribute its ZPEFM replica. The gadget comes with 2 handles, 2 triggers and 4 sound effects from the game. Besides, the two-feet long gun comes with orange LEDs that light up according to the action that is performed. The gravity gun will require 3 C batteries to function, but these are not supplied in the package.

NECA, the manufacturer of this gravity gun replica, states that these are a limited edition, so once they’re sold out, they’re gone forever. Naive people would take this for granted, but apparently NECA did the same in the case of its Portal guns. Half Life 2 items, and especially gun replicas, would enjoy a great popularity among geeks, even though the game is pretty old. Only a company that doesn’t like money would refuse to manufacture new ZPEFM batches from time to time.

At the moment, the gravity gun replica can be preordered for $149 on ThinkGeek and Amazon. The latter states that orders will be shipped on April 7th, while ThinkGeek estimates that the item will be in stock on April 23rd. Either way, make sure you get one while you can, just in case NECA decides to keep its word this time.

The sad part is that a simple Google search will return, among others, a eBay page where the ZPEFM is sold for $299. I guess that some people’s greed has no limits! I understand that the value of this replica will increase in time, especially since it is a limited-edition item, but selling it for double its price while it’s still available is simply outrageous.
