Weddings have moved light years away from the clichéd bride in a white gown, the bland exchanging of vows, the supposedly chic after-party and a bottle of overtly expensive champagne; well for us geeks at least. A few geek couples leapt way ahead and brought their childhood geeky wedding fantasies to life with cakes and proposals only a geek can think of.

The Shrek Wedding
An English couple, Cristine and Keith, got married as Shrek and Fiona. The makeup took them a total of 3 hours and their pet dog filled in for Donkey but all in all they had an ideal fairytale wedding and now live happily ever after not very Far Far Away.
Star Wars Wedding
Nadia and Dale, two Star Wars fanatics, re-created the Star Wars galaxy on Earth with their Star Wars-themed wedding. They went as far as having their guest dress in the attire unique to the galaxy. The wicked Darth Vader sat with the guests and Jabba the hutt was the cake.
Viking Wedding
Ann and Sam had a Viking-themed wedding which included everything from dowry exchange to a sword ceremony, a photo shoot in the comic book store they met and a reception including a beard contest. Costumes were of course mandatory for invitees, as specified in the invitations.
Halloween Wedding
Tori and Clayton met on Halloween and big costume nerds that they call themselves; they had to dress the hell up on this auspicious day. They designed and created cat gangster-like costumes with ears and tails to symbolize the last name they were going to adopt after their wedding.

Harry Potter Wedding
Jen and Mike had a spectacular Harry Potter-themed wedding, in which they recreated, ‘The Hog’s head,’ ‘The Three Broomsticks Bar’ and had every Potter fans’ favorite, ‘Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans,’ for guests to munch on.

Halo 3 Proposal
An Xbox live member, Moviesign, proposed to his girlfriend in the game Halo 3. He placed weapons in the game strategically, to read, ‘Marry Me?’
iPhone App Proposal
Bryan Haggerty proposed to his girlfriend of two and a half years, Jeannie Choe, via an iPhone app that he created. The app displayed a map containing location points around San Francisco; each point had a video which gave clues about the next location and when she reached the final location all the points on the map connected to form a, ‘<3.’
Super Mario Proposal
Adam Lynch proposed to his girlfriend by creating his own custom programmed version of Super Mario World, christened Super Dez World (his girlfriend’s name is Desiree). Each level was named after the things she liked like movies and when she got to the last level a black box with white text displayed, ‘Will you marry me?’
iPod Proposal
A geek gifted his girlfriend an iPod Nano with his proposal, ‘Kathryn McCollister will you marry me?’ engraved on the back. He says he was more worried he would have to return the iPod than the diamond ring he’d bought for the occasion. However, everything turned out swell!
