It’s been exactly 10 years since George Harrison passed away prematurely at the age of 58. The lead guitarist for The Beatles, also known as the “quiet Beatle”, was the one who introduced Indian Mysticism to the other Beatles. He went on to have a very successful solo career, maybe the most successful out of all the fab four after the band fell apart.
He was also part of the Travelling Willburys, a super group of sorts with the likes of Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison.
During the Beatles’ decade of supremacy, Harrison usually had one or two songs of his own in the albums, mostly dominated by Lennons and McCartney songs. In 1970, when everyone went their own seperate ways, Harrison released All Things Must Pass, the first ever triple album released by a solo artist, compiling all those songs Harrison never got to release while he was with the Beatles.
The album was a huge success, and to this day has sold over 18 million copies. His biggest hit as a solo artist came much later, in 1987, with the release of I got my Mind Set on You.
In honor of this great musician and person, a compilation of partially geeky Harrison/Beatles stuff from around the web was our little way of helping to remember him by.
8-Bit Beatles
Couldn’t ignore the wonders of Beatles music in 8-bit, could we?
This one makes them all look like Super Mario brothers.
And just before you get all worn out with the 8-bit, here’s Harrison’s most popular song (we’ve mentioned above) in the wonderful minimalstic stripped down musical form.

The Obvious Simpsons Cameo
He made a short appearance on the Simpson’s brilliant episode about Homer’s life as a successful musician in a barbershop quarter. Homer, of course, is amazed by the food Harrison has than actually from the legend himself.
The Obligatory Weird Looking Toy
We did a Freddie Mercury full-geek tribute a week ago 20 years after his untimely death, worth checking out. If you want to have the Beatles with you when you shower via shower curtain, you check this out as well.
