Star Trek fan art always seems to be either painfully weird or ridiculously awesome, but this crocheted USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) manages to fall somewhere in the middle, a quirky little design that really manages to get the look off right and look downright adorable. If you’re a fan of The Original Series, you just might want to try and make one for yourself as well.
Designer ChrysN decided to set about creating a crocheted replica of the USS Enterprise from the original Star Trek series, not only because it’s iconic, but also because it seemed like an easy place to start. Indeed, the look of the original Enterprise is one of those things a Star Trek fan can’t really forget. I also imagine that it’s a little bit easier to make than a reconstruction of the Deep Space Nine space station. The only thing cooler than this cute, crocheted replica is the fact that the designer also provides step-by-step instructions so you can create your own.
Other than standard supplies such as yarn, string, stuffing, and crocheting/sewing tools, all you need is a length of wire to add some rigidity to the warp nacelles and the saucer section of the Enterprise. Of course, it also takes some knowledge of how to crochet and sew, but if this is a skill you already have then the instructions should be second nature to you.
If not, well, find a friend who knows how and beg them nicely. This is the kind of thing that could really go anywhere, be it next to your computer, on a bookshelf, or even on your coffee table. Whether you prefer Kirk, Picard, or even Archer, you have to admit this is a pretty sweet Enterprise.
