Mexican artist Pedro Reyes was once involved in a campaign called Palas por Pistolas, to exchange firearms for vouchers and electric appliances. The campaign broke the national record of voluntary donation, and the firearms were crushed by a steamroller, melted and re-molded into 1,527 gardening tools.
In an ongoing life ambition of his to turn something made specifically to carry death and sorrow with it, Reyes takes these discarded weapons and turns them into musical instruments. Not all of them are functional, but playing a guitar made out of AK-47 magazines or trying to play a gun-harmonica is kinda cool even if you can’t make music that’s sweet to listen to.
