Lots of people love “Star Wars.” Everybody loves cake. You can probably see where this is going even if you didn’t read the title of this post.
This life-sized stormtrooper cake was created by Boston-based cake maker Amanda Oakleaf for the city’s annual Arisia science fiction convention . The cake measured 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighed over 200 pounds, and served 300 guests, taking a crew of 10 two weeks to put it together. Oakleaf says she had to invent a new way of making cakes to pull this project off.
Oakleaf and her crew built a skeleton to put the individual layers of cake making up the stormtrooper in. The head actually contained Rice Krispies treats, as well as the legs. “It was a challenge to say the least, but we’re all incredibly proud, as we think it is perhaps the greatest sculpted cake ever created,” Oakleaf said.
The stormtrooper post-cake-devouring looks a little disconcerting, with just his skeleton visible. I only hoped the cake tasted as awesome as it looked, but since the stormtrooper was stripped literally to the bones, it seems that the proof is in the icing. (Aren’t you glad I didn’t make another tired joke about the cake not being a lie?)
